girls with sharp sticksGirls With Sharp Sticks by Suzanne Young is one of those books that just sounds amazing from the get go. And I knew instantly that it would be going on my TBR, that I would be reading it eventually. There’s a very paper doll-esque feel to the way this novel is set up, almost a Stepford Wives sort of thing, but without the wives having been different before. Basically, the academy raises women to be mindless objects of beauty for the men of society. But one day, one of the young woman really begins to question the way the world has been set up. And I can’t wait to give this one a read. I’ve probably read quite a few books with a similar plot to this and I know there are many more on my TBR, but I’m really excited about this one in particular. It’s been added to my Next Up shelf, which is basically just my way of weeding out my ridiculously large TBR in order to find the books I’m most excited to read in the future. Girls With Sharp Sticks was published in March of this year and I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy.

The Girls of Innovations Academy are beautiful and well-behaved—it says so on their report cards. Under the watchful gaze of their Guardians, the all-girl boarding school offers an array of studies and activities, from “Growing a Beautiful and Prosperous Garden” to “Art Appreciation” and “Interior Design.” The girls learn to be the best society has to offer. Absent is the difficult math coursework, or the unnecessary sciences or current events. They are obedient young ladies, free from arrogance or defiance. Until Mena starts to realize that their carefully controlled existence may not be quite as it appears.
As Mena and her friends begin to uncover the dark secrets of what’s actually happening there—and who they really are—the girls of Innovations will find out what they are truly capable of. Because some of the prettiest flowers have the sharpest thorns.

What are your thoughts on Girls With Sharp Sticks? Do you think you’ll be adding it to your TBR? Is it a book you want to read or one you’re not really all that interested in? Have you read books like this one before? Let me know in the comments! Happy reading!
