I wasn’t able to post yesterday—hello, exhaustion from work—but I know none of you thought for a second I’d miss Cover Love Friday now that I’m back! I would 100% cry. Now, for those of you who don’t know, Cover Love Friday is the one day a week where I gush over gorgeous book covers and how much I want them on my shelf asap. Today’s feature, illustrated by the amazing and wonderful Kieth Thompson is the book Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld.
This book is such an amazing gem, steampunk and historical fiction all mixed into one. And the cover is simply dazzling. I’ve been in love with it since I first got my hands on a copy and I’m certainly still quite in love. This book has two covers, each one thoroughly gorgeous. The first book is immediately noticeable as steampunk, incorporating cogs and machinery into the artwork. And frankly it’s just really fun to look at. The second cover, however, is so stunning that it breaks my heart that they only ever published it in paperback (since all the ones I own are hardcover).
I just adore the fact that one of the main characters was included on the second iteration of the cover. Not to mention the fact that the rest of the books’ covers follow the pattern of having the character on the front rather than simply a design. The colors are fantastic, the airship in the corner is especially eye catching and gorgeous. Frankly, I just think that this was thoroughly necessary and my life would have a little less happiness without it.
What do you think of the covers? Are you a fan of steampunk? Have you read the series? I’ll let you in on a little secret: The illustrations don’t end at the cover, you guys!!

Yes!! It’s such a fantastic series! I definitely recommend it. So much so that I had a copy bought for one of my kiddos this summer.
