This is my first official Liebster award! I’d like to take a moment to thank Maria @ Bookgraphy for nominating me several weeks ago. I apologize for not having gotten to it sooner. Feel free to check out her blog, you guys. She reads a lot of similar books that I do, so I imagine if you enjoy Reader Fox, you’ll enjoy Bookgraphy.

The rules:

  1. Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog/post
  2. Answer the nominator’s 11 questions
  3. Come up with your own set of 11 questions to be answered by your nominees
  4. Nominate 11 bloggers of your choosing – don’t forget to tag them, provide a link to their blogs – let them know!!
1. Which was your first favorite book?

Oh, goodness, this is going to take me back. I truthfully don’t think I could really pinpoint my first favorite book, because who knows which one I was obsessed with as a child. I know I loved books from an early age and was reading them like it was my job back when I was five years old, but I couldn’t actually tell you if I had a favorite when I was that age. I know I spent a lot of time reading Nancy Drew books in first grade, but I don’t think I ever considered them my favorites. I know I was nine when I decided that Eragon by Christopher Paolini was my favorite book, so maybe it’s that one?

2. Where is your favorite place you’ve ever been?

That’s really hard. I’ve been a lot of places, but I don’t think I’ve ever fallen in love with any of them. I think, on a broader scale, I will admit that California is my favorite state for weather and nostalgic reasons. I grew up here, in Northern California, and though I moved when I was 14 I’ve always considered it my home. I remember the first time I came back, I saw the Nevada/California border, and the trees on that mountain coming in from Reno and I just started bawling my eyes out. I love it here. Always have. And of course, there’s Disneyland in Anaheim, so it’s just kind of perfect.  ^.^

3. What book character reminds you of yourself?

Crescent from The Lunar Chronicles. She basically is me, or at least who I was as a teenager. I imagine as she grows up she’ll still be a lot like me. The one major difference we have is that I’m into books while she’s into computers. But personality wise, we’re basically the same person and I just about died when I realized it while reading Cress. It helps that I’m also in love with Thorne, lol.

4. Do you prefer physical books, ebooks or audiobooks?

I prefer physical books, but I appreciate and love each format for what it offers. I mean, here’s the thing. At the end of the day, I’ll always ask for a physical copy. But, if it comes down to a pricing issue or me wanting to read while doing adulting tasks, I turn to ebooks and audiobooks. It’s definitely increased the number of books I read yearly.

5. Which Fantasy creature would you love to have as a pet?

Dragon, dragon, dragon. But like…a dragon that can shrink to little dog size whenever we’re not traveling somewhere because something that ginormous certainly would be a pain in the butt to house. I definitely couldn’t fit a fully grown dragon into my apartment and frankly, I’d feel bad. Plus, you know…people are awful and would possibly try to hurt or steal it which is why the dragon shouldn’t be confined to one size.

6. Who would be your dream book girl/boyfriend?

Carswell Thorne from The Lunar Chronicles. I answer this question all the time and have absolutely no hesitation about the answer.

7. What’s your favorite Superhero?

Ahk, okay, I’m not all that big on superheroes. And for that reason, it’s really hard for me to pick a favorite. The thing is, I really enjoy the movies for modern superheroes that have come out (namely, Marvel is awesome), but it’s not like I’m especially in love with them or they’ve had a stupidly monumental effect on my life. I like them a lot, I love a few of them, but that’s pretty much where it stops.

I’d say, currently, it’s a pretty strong tie between Spiderman, Iron Man, Captain America, and Professor X. And it’s very dependant on the actors playing the characters because Spiderman and Professor X wouldn’t even be on this list were it not for the more recent renditions of them (e.g. Toby McGuire was awful, in retrospect). So, I dunno.

I like the intelligent ones the best, which is why after I’ve given it a lot of thought, I narrowed it down to Iron Man and Professor X. And I think the only reason I’m leaning toward Professor X is because I just love James McAvoy.

8. What book has influenced you the most and why?

This is probably Eragon, though Marissa Meyer’s Cinder is a close contendor. Eragon is pretty much the big reason why I continue to try so hard at writing. I’ve not finished anything yet, but I’m actually working on a project right now that I feel really good about. Hopefully it won’t turn out like the hundred other stories I started and just couldn’t bring myself to complete. Of course, the reason I bring up Meyer is because her books introduced me to an entirely different subset of books that inspired my most recent project.

9. Other than Blogging, what are your hobbies?

Reading, mainly. And writing. I am a part of an online text-based RPG, as well which plays into the writing bit. And occasionally, as noted by the images I’ve used for the header of this blog, I draw.

10. What’s your favorite quote or personal mantra?

Ahhh, I don’t have one of either. But this one packs a pretty punch worth remembering:

“War is what happens when language fails.”
Margaret Atwood
11. Who inspires you?

Authors like Marissa Meyer, Christopher Paolini, Erin Michelle Sky, Steven Brown and a ten-year-old little girl named Grace who was so excited to finally learn to read all so she could read a book to her younger cousin.

I nominate:
Brittany @ Perfectly Tolerable
Inside My Library Mind
Debbie @ Debbie’s Library
Aurora @ Aurora Librialis
