I’ve never done one of these before, admittedly in part due to the fact that the single time I was nominated prior to today, I had no idea what it was. Ironically, I do still intend to write a post about that in the future, I just haven’t gotten to it yet. And I’m focusing on this one mainly because it’s more recent. So I’d like to start off by thanking Kristyn @ The Bibliophile Empress for being amazing and nominating me for The 2018 Sunshine Award. I feel truly honored and grateful to you. ❤️

I don’t know who started this award, but I would also like to thank you as well.

And now the rules:
  1. Thank the blogger(s) who nominated you for the award and link back to their blog.  ✔️
  2. Answer the 11 questions that the blogger asked you.  ✔️
  3. Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 questions. ✔️
  4. List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award in your post and/or blog. ✔️
1.) Why did you start your blog?

I started my blog because I love reading. Basically, at the end of the day, I wanted to be one of those people who had access to wonderful and amazing opportunities for ARCs and I was told, plainly, that I needed a blog where I posted my reviews. My only experience with blogging up to that point had been with Tumblr and I was sort of an on again off again blogger and I’d only ever posted reviews to Goodreads. So, one day I joined wordpress, copy pasted all the reviews I’d written into posts, and joined Netgalley. It’s been a little over a year and I’ve only just started working seriously on blogging, since prior to now I really only ever bothered to post when I had a review.

2.) What is your dream profession? If you already work in it, what is it?

This one is hard because the truth is, I can’t decide. I’ve always wanted to be an editor. I don’t want to work in publishing, though, because I want nothing to do with the PR aspect of it. But, if I could ever one day work as an editor, I’d jump on it in a heartbeat. Other than that, I would love to teach Creative Writing. I’m somewhat close to that, since I work for Lindamood-Bell and I teach kids how to read. You have no idea how fulfilling it is to have 10 year old kids who don’t even know their letters tell you after you’ve worked with them that they’re so excited to visit their cousin because now they can finally read them a book. I legitimately cried, I was so proud and happy for her.

3.) What are your 2018 goals? Have you completed any yet?

My only big goal is to finally finish one of the books I’ve started writing. I’ve had so many writing projects that I keep starting, but never finished. And it’s such a shame, because I think they’re all pretty fun and exciting ideas, but I’ve just never actually been able to get past writing the bits I’ve thought about because I don’t sit and tie it all together. It’s not perfect and therefore not worth it. But I want to finish one and I’ve started a new story so maybe I’ll get there.

4.) What are some hobbies you do?

I read, mostly. But, I do have a pretty regular hobby of text based RPG. This is basically where you create a character and a bunch of other people create a character and you write posts about your character (what they’re doing, for example) and other people have their own characters who reply and respond to yours. It’s really an amazing amount of fun and deeply fulfilling to me.

5.) What is your favorite candy?

There are these really dumb cherry gummies that I am just an absolute sucker for. I think they’re made by the same people who do Gummy Bears. I don’t know what it is about them that I like so much, but I just gobble them up every time I have them. Of course, the candy companies are evil and have since reduced the number of gummies I get per bag, but kept it at the same price so…I sorta stopped buying them as much after that.

6.) What is your favorite book?

The Wendy by Erin Michelle Sky and Steven Brown. I talk about this book way too much. But I just love it. And I really wanna share it with everyone, in part because this book doesn’t have the attention it deserves. My favorite book prior to reading this one was Cress by Marissa Meyer and I never really advertised it all that much a) because I wasn’t blogging at the time and b) Marissa Meyer is already super well known. It’s just one of those things where I really want more people to gush about The Wendy with me, I imagine, lol. Plus, it’s a feminist retelling of Peter Pan. I mean, how could one not want the world to read that?

7.) Who is your favorite author?

Marissa Meyer, hands down. I love her. I love her books. I think she’s a fantastic writer. And she wrote the embodiment of a character that I had tried to force into so many other characters and simply didn’t fit. Basically, she took all the pieces that I really loved of all the male characters that I really loved and melded them together and created Carswell Thorne and basically stole my heart.

Not to mention the fact that she also created Cress who, apart from being a huge tech nerd (cause I’m not, I’m more of a huge book nerd, but let’s face it Cress is the closest we get to that in The Lunar Chronicles), is basically me. I call her my spirit sometimes because while I was reading the book I recall legitimately shouting “omg, I do that too!” at her character. The most specific being when she would imagine some elaborate fantasy in order to get through life and I just… 😱 I found myself in her over and over again.

And then she and Thorne were in love and I died. But also, Marissa Meyer is an amazing writer and everyone should go read her books, too. 😊

8.) What is a show that you have loved so much that you binge watched it?

The OA. Have you guys seen it yet? Oh my Merlin, it was amazing. The story was definitely somewhat unorthodox because the interpretive dance was weird af, but I just loved the story and the characters and honestly…Hop was fascinating to me? I wont say too much because I’m totally the sort who’d give away since I never know how to summarize, but trust me…it’s fantastic.

9.) What is a movie that scared the heck out of you? Has there been one?

I think it was called Frozen…and it was made in 2012? It had Kevin Zegers in it (pre his role in the embarrassing and pathetic movie version of City of Bones – not that I mind that The Mortal Instruments flopped now because I found out Cassandra Clare is a douche of a person [e.g. absolute bully] even if I did [and unfortunately still do] enjoy reading her books). The movie was about three college kids who went skiing and got stuck up on the lift over the weekend. And it was just horrifying to me. I think the biggest part that scared me was the fact that it just seemed possible whereas raging serial killers don’t feel as real to me? I watched it with my sister and basically spent 90% of the time watching it covering my eyes because I was so uncomfortable.

10.) What are some of your biggest fears?

I imagine some of you might laugh. My biggest fear is feet. I have this ridiculous foot phobia that’s so strong I can’t even touch my own. They just feel so gross to me. I’ll only touch my feet in the shower and if anyone touches me with theirs, I immediately need to wash off or lather myself in hand sanitizer. In fact, I carry hand sanitizer in my purse for that precise reason (the number of people who take their shoes off in the car, I stg). I can’t even touch socks unless they’re fresh out of the wash. Which is admittedly a bit of a problem because my boyfriend has this annoying habit of leaving his socks all over the apartment -cringes-.

11.) What are some problems or obstacles that you’ve faced with your blog? What are you hoping to achieve with your blog?

I think the biggest obstacle is simply keeping up with my blog. Writing on here take a lot of work. It’s not something that you can just spend a short amount of time on if you’re serious about it. And I really enjoy it, I do, so the time commitment isn’t exactly a problem, but it definitely presents some difficulties when you’ve got other things to do in your life that are very serious adulting things that just have to get done. I’m 25 years old and I unfortunately don’t have the luxury of spending all my free time doing whatever the hell I want.

As for achievements, my biggest goal with this blog is to get it to a point where I have enough views to monetize. Now, there’s a very specific reason I want to do this and it’s so that I can host giveaways for those who are here and reading what I write. I don’t make a lot of money and therefore hosting constant giveaways is not something that I’m quite capable of right now. I wish I were. But if I could get this blog to a point where it makes enough money to cover the initial cost of monetizing (I think it’s around $120 a year) and earn at least $25 extra per month, I feel like I could host two giveaways a month. And as a reader who understands what it is like to have a hard time affording books, I want to be able to give something to readers like me who would love nothing more than getting those free books.

So, that’s the dream.

Please understand that you are under no obligation to write a response post or continue the train. If you’d like me to avoid tagging you in anything in the future please let me know. I don’t want to be tagging anyone who doesn’t want to take part.

    1. Ah, of course! I love your blog!

Marissa Meyer is such a huge love of mine. I’ll admit, I was so weary about her books early on cause the covers made them look like they were for much younger readers, but they were so brilliant. When you get around to reading the other books, let me know what you think of Carswell Thorne! 😛

    1. They’re just sooo good, right? ^_^ It’s honestly a pretty great reason to make a blog, tbh. New books are well worth the effort. Thanks for commenting! ❤
